Friday Fun Day!! Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was - any guesses? Yep! Circle of Life again.
We're still obsessed with the Dragon Masters series, and this morning we talked about what our own dragons would look like. Lucas said that his would have 7 heads, each with 8 noses. And, after a few minutes, he calculated that this would mean his dragon has 56 noses!
The boys finished up their few remaining assignments for the week, including making an origami Baby Yoda for art with Mrs. D.
During the middle of the day, both boys joined a call with their Science of Fun teacher and a few friends to learn about "History's Strangest Cures."
To celebrate the end of another long week, the boys got to watch an ENTIRE MOVIE! This week's selection was Big Hero 6.
PM recess: Lucas played inside with Mommy and Nico outside with Daddy. As you can see from this video, Nico is getting good at chasing down fly balls!
Today at NLS:
The day started with breaking news: Nico lost another tooth!!
Also exciting: today was Field Trip Day! This morning we got in the NLS Bus and drove to Arabia Mountain. No tadpoles unfortunately - the entire pond had dried up! But it's been several weeks since Nico and Lucas and Mommy saw the froglets, so our hope is that many of them had already worked their tails off and hopped on to their land-based life.
We did see some lingering diamorpha blooms, pretty purple flowers, a buzzing pollinator, soaring hawks, and a lot of green trees. And it was a bit windy at the top, so Lucas got a wardrobe upgrade during our snack break.
After we got back, the boys did a great job with their distance learning. Song of the Day was Circle of Life for the 4th straight day. This time we did a detailed compare and contrast of the animated original version vs. the recent remake. See the photos from some examples!
Nico had math - including another measuring game in which he trounced Daddy - science, and Spanish. Lucas had math, fundations, and Spanish.
Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was.... Circle of Life again! There's a trend here.
For distance learning, Lucas had fundations, reading, and writing. For his writing, Lucas shared a great example of how he's been helping around the house.
Nico had reading, writing, sceience. For reading, Nico learned ways to take notes while reading so that he could compare and contrast across two different versions of a story. For his study of adjectives and adverbs, Nico wrote about a perfect house he would build quickly. Visitors beware: this house includes lasers, trap doors, and dungeons!
Today at NLS:
For Song of the Day today, Nico and Lucas chose again, and again chose Circle of Life from The Lion King! This time we watched the opening sequence from the new version of the movie.
Today the boys and Mommy surprised Daddy with some very tasty treats for Teacher Appreciation Week! Daddy was very grateful and enjoyed sharing them with his great fellow Teacher and their wonderful students.
For distance learning, Nico trounced Daddy in his math game, which involved measuing objects (and people) with everyday objects like pencils, food boxes, paperclips, and rolls of toilet paper. Lucas learned about the food-seeking habits of different animals and about animals and their offspring. And both boys had WAY too much fun doing their PE from Coach Wilsterman.
For AM recess, Mommy got us a new cornhole game for the backyard! For PM recess, we went back to the church parking lot. Nico continued to master his wheelie skills, and Lucas says he's ready to take his training wheels off of the big bike on Friday!
Week 8!! Today at NLS:
For Song of the Day today, Nico and Lucas chose Circle of Life from The Lion King.
We started breakfast with two updates from Nico: (1) He had already finished the Fake Mustache book from Auntie Laura and Uncle David that he received last night (clearly it was a hit - thanks!!) and (2) his front tooth is hanging by a thread!
For distance learning, Lucas did a great job writing a narrative on a time he was nervous. He also did the build-your-own-sentence puzzles for fundations with almost no grownup help! This is definitely a kid who is on the road to reading by himself. For Nico's distance learning, he hunted for verbs and did a great job comparing and contrasting across two versions of a story.
For piano, Nico worked on his new song and Lucas learned about Treble and Bass Clef and the musical staff.
After all of that and a brief "Dig it Up" fossil/rock break, the boys tried out the new sprinkler!!
