Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was Free Fallin' by Tom Petty.
No new distance learning assignments today, so the boys celebrated 30 days of hard work by watching Inside Out. Woo-hoo!!
AM recess: biking at our favorite church parking lot.
In the afternoon, Lucas had a group video call with his class and Nico had a test call with some of the crew from Science of Fun before a FaceTime playdate with Maddox.
We also had some group tech time, sitting together while working (one of us) and playing (two of us) on our own devices.
Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was American Pie by Don McLean as we continued to explore the overlap between Songs the Kids Might Like and Songs Daddy Can Kinda Play on the Guitar.
For distance learning, Lucas had math, science, and Spanish; Nico had fundations, math, and Spanish. Lucas did great at his subtraction problems and drew the lifecycle of a butterfuly. Nico played the "Data Driven" game from Mrs. Staton and plotted dice rolls on a bar graph.
Rainy day, but we got in some outdoor time in the afternoon. And Nico and Lucas did another episode of Adventure to Fitness with Mr. Mark on the porch.
And Nico took advantage of the rain to finish reading The Mr. Benedict Society.
Earth Day!! Today at NLS:
For Song of the Day we went back to Paradise by John Prine to commemorate Earth Day: "And daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County // Down by the Green River where Paradise lay // Well, I'm sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking // Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away."
In today's distance learning, Nico and Lucas finished their beautiful cactus collages! Nico also wrote a great poem about leatherback turtles and Lucas wrote two excellent narratives.
In very exciting news, one month after Nico sent in 10 "bear codes" to the BEAR company (see the entry for Day 5), he received a very exciting package in the mail! Nico and Lucas had a great time matching the cards they've been collecting with their fruit roll-ups to the stickers they got in the package and filling out out the poster they got. So far they've got 24 out of 50 stickers! (that's a LOT of fruit roll-ups...)
For tech time, Lucas did some math on Odyssey Learning and Nico learned how to format shapes in Google Slides.
Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
Today Nico's math assignment included a bar chart comparison of the outcome of 2 coin flips: heads/heads, heads/tails or tails/heads, and tails/tails.
For his science assignment, Lucas learned more about pollinators and classified a bunch of them as either insect, bird, mammal, or reptile.
AM recess: backyard baseball; PM recess: more biking. Nico continued his speedy racing and Lucas did great with his training wheels raised up to Level 4!

Week 6!! Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was Yellow Submarine by The Beatles, as modified by Nico: "we all live in a blue jellybean...a blue jellybean..." (We also tried Keep on the Sunny Side by the Carter Family, but Daddy needs to practice that one a bit more.)
Today Lucas had a video call with Ms. Hollingsworth AND Mrs. Joiner!
For their distance learning, Nico had reading, writing, science, and music; Lucas had fundations, reading, writing, and music. For writing, Nico practiced introductions: "Did you know that a leatherback turtle is the biggest turtle in the world?" And Lucas wrote a two-sentence narrative on our newest board game.
Our obsession with the MarbleLympics and Marbula One continues. Nico has begun recruiting marble teams from our collection.
AM recess: indoors, PM recess: backyard fun
