LAST DAY OF OAKHURST!!! Today at NLS:
"Song" of the Day was actually several songs - we watched most of the songs from Queen's famous Live Aid concert.
PARADE!!!! All of the teachers from Oakhurst -- and Oakie! - drove by in an end-of-year parade.
ICE CREAM!!! Way back in August, we were already planning to do our traditional walk to the ice cream place on the last day of school. Since that wasn't an option, we brought the ice cream home -- raspberry chocolate chunk with sour gummy worms on top. Yum! (yum?)
SURFING!! The boys celebrated with a surfing trip in the backyard ball pool.
And that's it for distance learning this spring! Next up? Nico Lucas Summer Camp!
2 more days of distance learning!!! Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was Just Can't Wait to be King from The Lion King.
Both Nico and Lucas got socially-distant visits from their teachers!!! Mrs. Staton and Mrs. Reynolds came by to drop off an end-of-year gift for Nico and Ms. Hollingsworth and Mrs. Joiner dropped off a gift for Lucas. Both boys really enjoyed seeing their teachers IN PERSON after so many weeks of seeing them only on screens!
Also, even though the official Second Grade Super Soak at school was canceled, some neighborhood families made the rounds to ensure that second graders still got properly soaked. Nico defended himself admirably despite being greatly outnumbered.
Last day of new material!! No more new Google Slides after today!!
3 more days of distance learning! Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was We are the Champions by Queen.
Nico had reading, writing, science, and art. Science was about shadows, so we got to make Elephant and Piggie Let's Go for a Drive shadow puppets! (shadow, shadow, shaddy-shaddy-shadow...)
Lucas had another scavenger hunt and continued his reflections on the year.
For recess, the boys played cornhole with Mommy.
And more Cheerio stacking -- Nico set a new Carderock Youth Division record with 12!
In the afternoon the boys wound down with an audiobook version of Ivy and Bean: Bound to be Bad.
4 days left of distance learning! Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was Circle of Life. Because every day is a good day for Circle of Life.
Nico had fundations and math
Lucas had another scavenger hunt and answered questions about his favorite things in Kindergarten (see pictures)
For PE, Coach Wilsterman joined the PE teacher from Winnona Park for a virtual game of Minute to Win It. For Nico and Lucas, this involved heroic efforts to get socks into a box with only their feet.
And, more Cheerio stacking!
Last week of Distance Learning!!! Today at NLS:
Song of the Day was... we can't remember! (Daddy didn't update the website until later in the week)
Lucas conducted a scavenger hunt in his books for words that start with the letter B.
Nico did reading (who/what/where/when/why), writing, and science.
And, our wait is over: we got Cheerios! We started our Cheerio stacking adventures after dinner.
